Is it going to be a big ticket in Boston?

While the teams have agreed in principles to trade Kevin Garnett to Celtics for a couple of young players and an expiring contract. Does this launch the Celtics into the conversation of being in the finals? I have some series doubt about the ability Ray Allen and K.G. will launch Paul Pierce to the NBA finals, because there is nothing on this roster after acquiring two all-stars.

The first question that springs to mind is if the Celtics have their mid-level exception to add two or three vets that can play minutes and contribute. People think that you win with stars, that wrong its making sure you find the players that will fit in with focal point, Duncan has not played with a true star since Robinson retired, whatever two guard plays with him scores 25 and gets credit as the best player in the league. Looking at their roster I just don’t see a competent 8-man rotation, the starting lineup is the big three, Rondo, and Glen Davis or Kendrick Perkins, with Brian Scalabrine off the bench and that’s it. Not to mention the fact that Jesus has not been the healthiest the last couple of years.

I do think this a good trade for the Celtics though, because in reality they did not trade away anything special to get a strong character guy who plays hard and some special skills. His not the type a guy who can draw defenses into the low post to allow guys like Pierce and Allan to play but he can play well in the pick and roll. And the fact is if Jefferson and Green were really potential franchise players then the Celtics would not continue to get worse since being drafted.

I thought the Ray Allen trade was not the best move at the time because would be the second best perimeter scorer on the Celtics. But now with the Kid I think at least they have a team that allows them to believe they can win and if it does not work they can trade all these players to playoff teams.

Superior teams

  1.  Detriot

  2.  Cleveland

  3.  Chicago

  4.  Healthy Miami

Those are the teams that I feel are definitely better than the Celtics are in the next level of teams, the Raptors, Nets, Knicks, Magic, Wizards, Bobcats and the Celtics. The Knicks, Magic, Raptors and Celtics all have the talent to be a top five team as long as they get lucky.

This has that feel of when the Mailman and the Glove showed up in L.A. and they were the four star team that beat by the no star team. So I think that that this deal for the Big ticket is no big deal.

Top ten signs that July is the worst sports month

10. The most intriguing sporting event is the Homerun Derby.

Only one of the major sports is going on, there is always more chatter about Homerun Derby. Who be in it, who won’t, who is this guy named Rios, the over under on the total homeruns of the guy who is leading at the break, always take the under, some really great sports chatter.

9. Who’s Now, or whatever ESPN is using as filler.

I am not bashing Who’s Now again, well maybe I am, but it is just a sign that they do not have enough sports to cover in the summer. ESPN is hoping they can build up Arena Football so that they have a sport for the new generation of sports fans who’s attention spans are to short the stepping out of the box and infield fly rule that is known as baseball.

8. Kids care more about Magic than sports.

It was not that long ago kids would play basketball and football during July, and they wanted to be like Michael Jordan, Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, Deion Sanders, Magic Johnson or Charles Oakley, maybe I was the only one who wanted to be Oakley. If sports were doing its job kids would not be reading about some magician who from my understanding has yet to use his magic on the redhead.

7. Every NBA story has the words Luxury Tax in it.

Its almost impossible to read a NBA story where teams are making deals based on making the team better, they either are trying to get below the luxury tax they won’t make the deal because it would move them above the tax. The reality is it hurts a true NBA fans heart to hear that part of the reason why Kevin Garnett did not go to Phoenix is because of the Tax. It’s the same reason Suns are trying to dump a player that is the most underrated player of this generation, Shawn Marion, one of the few guys who can score 20 a game without one play being called, not to mention 12 rebounds and 2 blocks, don’t worry their will be many blogs that reflect my feelings for him.

6. The number two baseball story is how many games back the Yankees are.

I am a Yankees fan, but how many times can the question “are the Yankees done” be asked in one day on the ESPN’s platforms. The Angels blew a ten game lead in September; nobody who is around .500 is done in July.

5. The number one baseball story is Buds travel schedule.

How many times can people talk about if Bud will or won’t be there? It’s stupid, I am not going to get into my thoughts on bud right now, I just can’t stand watching people talk about if he will or should be there.

4. ‘The Bronx is Burning’

ESPN once is just trying to fill their schedule and I think it’s a successful effort. But the fact that the worldwide leader in sports is more concerned about the dramatic then the extra sports coverage of live games

3. All Local News Sports shows training camp football as their teaser.

While the media demands the elimination of preseason football games, they still cover the preseasonlike its this millennium’s Magna Carta, that’s right a little freshman history. What play did they Cowboys end in the second of three practices, a fly route from Romo to T.O., I saw that reported in two different places, and I don’t even live in Dallas.

2. .Poker became a spectator sport

In less than a decade the World Series of Poker has become a most watch. Who does not know what Chris Moneymaker looks like or Doug Raymer. This is one of the great fillers during the summer T.V. schedule, despites Norman Chad and his terrible sense of humor.

1. The trade deadline is like a movie with your favorite star in a sex scene.

It is built up too much, then it ends to quickly, then you realize that you did not get to see what you wanted to see. There are always All-stars on the trading block some how they have not been moved in the last couple of years, as a fan you want to see guys like Teixeira get trade to your team, but that does not happen anymore you end up with a middle reliever from the Royals named Dotel, face it instead of the money shot with Jessica Simpson you get a kiss with a quick cut to the sunrise and her in a towel.

NBA is run better than NFL?

At least in rookie contracts. Four months after the NFL Draft about half the rookies have yet to sign there contract because it is waiting to make sure each player makes more than the player picked after. The NBA has all their rookies sign in the days immediately following the draft so that a week later they can have their players play in the summer league. While there are pros and cons to the way both leagues build their contracts there is no question that NBA Rookie contracts benefit everybody involved.

As an American I am against limits set on individuals because America is based on a free market. But as a sports fan it seems that the 1998 NBA look out created a world of good and bad the economic structure of the league. They set up a hard contract system and created a term “maxcontract.” That is a subject for another time, but the structured rookie contracts also came away from the stoppage. All first round players get the same amount of years guaranteed, and they are paid on a scale according to their draft position. This allows for easy no mess negotiation and guarantees that guys like Greg Oden and Kevin Durant to play in the summer league, unless somebody needs surgery because he can’t breath during games, puts of the operation until after the ESPYs.

The NFL on the other hand is a terrible system that only benefits the agents. It seems that none of the teams want to negotiate until their camp opens. Their is always long hold outs and hurts players teams and coaches, just look at the no.1 pick this year who is chilling in Alabama, I am not quite sure how close Alabama is to Oakland but that probably is not the best sign of imamate resolution. It also created controversy between fans and the players, like Cedric Benson, there is still a lot of negative feelings towards him.  They should create a system similar to the NBA, come up with salaries and bonuses based on the previous years picks and apply the increase of the salary cap and allow players to play.

Who’s Now, Who cares

This is some what of interesting idea, and it is kind of fun, and is a lot better than listen to Sean Dingleberry talk about 40 RBs being a top RB as soon as he gets into the league. But this is another sign of the lack of true planning, the first panel was made up of Kirk Herbstreet, who does an amazing job on college football, a sport I do not really care about, Keyshawn Johnson, did a brillant job at the draft, and Michael Wilbon the least obnoxious person between the PTI and Around the Horn. So to judge athletes on every level they choose two people who keep there nose buried in football. The three closest matchups ((2) LaDainian Tomlinson def. (7) David Beckham (50.8% – 49.2),(7) Tony Parker def. (2) Roger Federer (56.1% – 43.9%), (3) Shaquille O’Neal def. (6) Michael Phelps (52.2% – 47.8%)) were all sweeps by the panel, who recieved 30% of the vote. The next round the entire panel got 10 % of the vote because the formula backfired in the first round. Then they brought in the cast of I know Pornounce you Chuck and Larry, and the realy obnoxiuos Greenberg who trys to talk over everybody and whines about everything.

While it is not a must watch for me I get it and it could have been alot better. The biggest problem was the panels. It should be a formula, 1 athlete, 1 columnist or broadcaster,  and 1 person from pop culture and actor or singer or something, this would create contrasting opinions from contrasting porspective.

While most crusty old people do not get comparing the greatest swimmer of alltime compared to the third best center of all time and their popularity and success. Its fun and it is better than another minute and a half spent talking about how Pacman showed up to court and there is no real News.

The Bad Newz Kennel

This would probably be the last thing I would expect for my first blog but it is everywhere and there is some thing that strikes me. I often look at sociological reasons for why things happen instead of punishment. I am also a big fan of the constitution, innocent until proven guilty. But what really bother me about the allegations are the executions. People make mistakes, sometimes they’re helping and they get dragged in the mud.

While I have no understanding of anything about the dog fighting world and its popularity, I am really disturbed by one of the allegations. I do not judge people with out walking in there the shoe, I am bothered by the fact that somebody who makes over 15 million dollars a year can order animals to executed in the manner that is described in the court documents. If Michael Vick is guilty of being part of the execution, with drowning electrocution, hanging, and being thrown into the floor there is no limit on the punishment he should face.

I understand that dog fighting is an industry that provides jobs as breeders for poor people who have not been giving the came opportunities that I and most other people have received. This is how people feed their families, it is wrong and they should be prosecuted, but I understand why people do it.My problem that someone like Vick who has been giving ever opportunity to anything he wants can take part of the execution. If he was at the dogfights that’s bad and he should face a severe punishment for allowing it to happen on his property. But if he gave the order to hang the dogs, then he should never see the light of day again. I hate when people talk about money and judging athletes by their salary, but this is case that there is no logical reason for someone who is doing as well as him to be involved in murdering dogs. There is no place in this civilization for someone who lacks any civilness. We toppled some guy named Saddam because of the way he executed people.

For the record I have always thought that Michael Vick is the most overrated player I have ever seen.

The Mission Statement

I am a unique combination of streaming consisousness, passion, self-deprication, and many other things that make me the person I am. Here are several things that you will notice reading the best sports blog ever published on the interweb box.

1. You will not agree with me, if you do seek immediate medical attention.

2. I am borderline illerate, so any smart ass comment better be pretty good.

3. I despise the way sports are covered today, you will figure this one out quickly.

4. I am a sports fan in the the next generation, I listen to podcasts, I search the internet for info, I play video games, and I am a dominate fantasy player who is issuing the challeange to all to the ultimate WNBA fantasy league 08, I got next.

5. I base all my arguments on logic not emmotion, but you will see my emotion show once I have found my logic.

This is just pointing out the obvious about me but the real reason I want to start this blog  because I am fearful that the world of sports I grew up on  is being destroyed not by the actual world of sports but by the coverage of the media. I will try to encourage independent thought, allow people to form unique opinions based on what they see for themselves, not what some loseron ESPN tells you what to think.

I will cover any thing and every thing, you have a topic email me. I will review Madden, I will write about how games are covered. Any random thought I have, I will post.
